Guests are always welcome. Wednesday II presentations are usually scheduled for 2 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month from September through May in the Emeriti Lounge in Walwood Hall on East Campus. Emeriti or special guests present programs of interest. Light refreshments are offered. Events also may be held at sites of interest within the University or off-campus. Recent topics and venues have included a tour and presentation by Lynn Houghton, regional History Curator at the Zhang Legacy Collections Center; a visit to the Michigan Geological Repository for Research and Education, with William B. Harrison, III, Geology Professor Emeritus; Monologues Performed by Sociology Professor Emeritis Stanley Robin; a reading and discussion of Eastern European fairy tales  by World Languages Emerita Professor Dasha Nisula; and a discussion of racism led by Barbara Hempill.  March Cancelation: The scheduled speaker for the March 2024, Denise M. Keele, Ph.D. Executive Director, Michigan Climate Action Network, has been called to testify in Lansing and will not be able to present to the emeriti this month. Dr. Keele's topic had been the work and goals of the Climate Action Network and the Kalamazoo Climate Crisis Coalition, including climate and energy legislation in Michigan. The Emeriti Council is working with her to reschedule and will let you know as soon as we are able to do so.Please save the date for our April Wednesday II presentation on April 10 at 1:30 p.m. in the Emeriti Lounge of Walwood Hall. Dr. Jeffrey Angles will speak on Godzilla, translation, and Japanese society. Dr Angles' English translation of "Godzilla and Godzilla Raids Again" was recently published by Minnesota Press, and has received coverage in the Kalamazoo Gazette and on WMUK.The Emeriti Council sends emeriti announcements of each event using the Emeriti Council email address of emer_council@wmich.edu.
